Gershow Recycling Corporation

Gershow Recycling operates nine scrap metal recycling facilities throughout Suffolk County, Nassau County, and Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1964 by Sam Gershowitz, the company is one of Long Island's oldest environmental companies that processes ferrous and non-ferrous metals and paper products. Gershow purchases scrap metal from homeowners and businesses, then manufactures them into baled, sheared, and shredded products for sale to steel mills, copper and aluminum foundries, paper mills, and other manufacturing facilities domestically and overseas. The company owns a fleet of more than 250 rail cars and maintains a rail yard adjacent to its shredding facility. Gershow accepts junk cars, trucks, buses, scrap iron, aluminum, copper, brass, tin cans, copper bearing scrap, electric motors, and waste paper. The company has been featured on Fox News, Fox Business News, Science Channel, Spike Television's Scrappers program, and was the subject of a National Geographic program called Break it Down. Gershow provides annual scholarship awards to graduating students pursuing engineering or environmental studies and donates vehicles to local fire and ambulance companies for training exercises.
