How this tool works
Each state on the map is shaded by its average local tow price: green for the cheapest third of the price range, yellow for the middle third and red for the most expensive third. Hover over or tap a state to see its average local tow, per-mile rate and hookup fee; click it to pin a detail panel that adds the average flatbed price and the data source.
Below the map, a table ranks all 50 states and can be sorted by any column. The color bands split the span between the cheapest ($95) and most expensive ($175) state averages into equal thirds, so each band doesn't hold the same number of states. Every figure comes from AAA survey data, state averages, last updated 2026-01-15.
Limitations: state averages hide large differences between cities and rural areas, and they don't include storage, after-hours or winching fees. For a trip-specific estimate, use the Towing Cost Calculator.
