How this tool works

Select a model year, then make, model, trim and engine. Each choice narrows the next list, and the final selection loads one record from the TowingServiceHub towing capacity database, compiled from manufacturer towing guides, trailering guides and specification sheets (last updated 2026-03-08).

The spec card shows maximum conventional (bumper-pull) towing, maximum fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing where one is on file, payload, GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating), GCWR (gross combined weight rating) and curb weight. If no manufacturer tongue weight is on file, the tool estimates it as 10% of maximum conventional towing and labels the figure as an estimate. You can add a second vehicle to compare two trucks side by side.

Limitations: ratings depend on axle ratio, cab, bed length, drivetrain and towing packages, so your exact configuration may be rated lower than the figure for a similar trim. Always confirm against the door-jamb label and owner's manual before towing.

Frequently asked questions

Which truck has the highest towing capacity in the database?

In each model's latest year on file, the 2025 Ford F-350 King Ranch with the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel has the highest maximum conventional rating at 24,200 lbs. For fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing, the 2026 RAM 3500 Big Horn leads at 37,100 lbs.

What is the difference between conventional and fifth-wheel towing capacity?

Conventional capacity applies to bumper-pull trailers on a rear receiver hitch. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck ratings apply to hitches mounted in the truck bed over the rear axle, which usually allows a higher rating. The lookup shows both figures whenever the manufacturer rating is on file.

How does the lookup estimate tongue weight?

When the database has no manufacturer tongue weight for a trim, the lookup estimates it as 10% of maximum conventional towing capacity and flags it as an estimate. For a truck rated at 10,000 lbs, that is 1,000 lbs. Check your owner's manual for the exact figure.

Why is my truck's towing capacity lower than the maximum listed?

Manufacturers publish maximums for one specific configuration, usually a particular engine, axle ratio, cab and bed with the factory towing package. Other configurations of the same model are often rated lower. Select your exact trim and engine in the lookup, then confirm with your door-jamb label.

Where does the towing capacity data come from?

Ratings are compiled by TowingServiceHub from manufacturer towing guides, trailering guides and published specification sheets for each model year. The database holds 1,846 trim-level records and was last updated 2026-03-08. Manufacturers revise ratings between model years, so check the current guide.
